"A new dress for chapel would be nice." Ellie announced. The girl felt somewhat guilty saying 'yes' again to Christine's suggestion of a nicer dress for her 'Sunday Best'. Yet, Ellie had to remind herself that it wasn't pity, Christine had recently said as much. How could someone not believe in God? Ellie didn't understand that. At least she wouldn't be dragged to a catholic church.

Christine looked around and waved a hand to her. "See anything that looks nice for it? We can pick a good neutral color for church. They tend to not like anything too eye catching, right?" She asked clearly uncertain as she looked at the options.

Ellie smiled. Christine was correct, "Chapel likes sensible colours, long sleeves, high collars." The young maid found a dress that she thought might fit the criteria, a sensible brown colour with vertical stripes in a darker shade of brown. There was a nice tapered waist to this dress. "What about this one?" she asked. Christine would have more knowledge of fashion than she.

Christine eyed it and smiled. "Oh it is beautiful and will look lovely on you, while still holding onto some humility. You have a good eye for it." She nodded and immediately decided this was good to start. "Let's get the measurements to make sure these will fit well or might need some adjustments and then we can move to another shop if you like? Or would you like another dress or two for days that are light on cleaning? Maybe to go to market?"

"Of course, Miss." Now came the point where Ellie would be measured. "What about a yellow dress as you say for the market, Miss." Another colour would be nice. "Oh, will I need a proper corset to make this brown dress fit?" Ellie used a working corset for support usually rather than a 'proper' corset that laced up in the back.

Christine nodded. "Oh yellow would be lovely. And of course. Corset and any undertakings you'd like, like slips and such, we will get too." She nodded to the woman who began to measure Ellie.

At Christine's urging, Ellie got up on the measuring stool reserved for girls and shorter women.
"Arms up please." Came the request from the woman measuring her.
At Christine's answer to the question of under things, Ellie blushed.
"Yes. Miss Pennyfeather." she was too ashamed to admit in front of a stranger that she only had one set of such garments and her well worn corset.

Christine knew all too well as the child being raised by a father alone for far too long, about the shyness in talking about things to others. She didn't ask any details, they would know her size and get her some things of good quality. "It's fine. I'm going to make sure you have what you need. We still have to go to the furniture shop too."

"Furniture shop, Miss?" Ellie asked, a tape measure pressed into her back.

Christine nodded as she picked up some gloves, eyeing them. "Well yes. I'm not making you sleep on the floor now am I?"
