She sighed softly, "He was the possessed man." And she left it at that, looking away before a tear spilled onto her cheek.

"I'm sorry..." he said, and he was more awkward when he noticed the tear. "Do you have people looking after you now...?"

"Just my brother, and only because I let him. I came here to this town ta look fer him." She heaved a sigh and then winced, rubbing where she felt movement in her belly. "I shouldn't have come here, he'll be cross that I walked here. But I needed to."

Gabriel frowned. "Did you... come for something in particular? Do you need a confession? A blessing? Anything?"

"I came here for a few reasons... I needed to feel closer to God after all I've been through... I do need to confess, but that isn't my reason for my visit... I need a house blessing. I am worried about ghosties followin' me about, ye ken? My best friend died for the same reason my husband died and I don't want ta be next, nor my children."

Gabriel's frown deepened. He wasn't easy to impress when it came to ghost stories. But if two people had died, something was going on. "I will do that, of course... But have you informed the constable?"

"No, it was... in another town, Father. Ye wouldn't believe the frightful things that happened there. My friend was a medium and they came to her to get their stories told, except one was a bad... bad thing and stuck to her like glue. My Harold treated her the day she died, and then he became obsessed with chasing her spirit killer and he was possessed too. But that town had more than that too... There were so many 'accidents' and murders there... I couldn't stay there after Harold died... Even if he is buried there."

Gabriel looked at her, horrified. "And... Have they investigated it... maybe it was some lunatic on the loose?" He wanted to believe that.

"I want ta believe they are still lookin into it but I doubt it. There is so much already happenin' there. I can assure ye it was no lunatic, I saw with my own eyes some things in the castle there. Dreadful things."

"I see..." Gabriel muttered, highly uncomfortable. He did not believe in those kinds of things. But if he did the house blessing... what if those evil spirits came after him?
