“… Did I hit something?” Anita said, eyes blinking languidly skyward and bloomers showing.

“Yeah,” Mehmet grunted, lodged under the bike and the woman, though to which question was unclear.

Anne turned her eyes Christine. She was so kind to offer, and so pretty, even when blurred through tears, that Anne felt a little comforted. "Thank you, Miss... but only if Alice comes." She looked at Alice, and then over to the shore, at Tobias. She couldn't leave Alice alone here with him, especially now.

Rose nodded along with Lory, and then when Anne spoke, she said: "She is." And she took hold of Alice's arm protectively. She'd fight whoever tried to take her tooth and nail before she'd let her sister go with a man who possibly beat her.
Just then, she was aware of what was happening at the shore. Was Mr. Meijer... actually being kind?
No. He was trying to mock her father. Easy mistake.

Alice was watching what unfolded on the shore, more interested in Mr. Meijer's apparent involvement with her family than with her father's arrest.
When she heard her sister say her name and felt her other sister take her arm, she needed a few seconds to pull herself back and she looked at the three other Ward girls a little confused. "What?"

[CW: violent language]
Ben wanted to go along quietly at this point. When Bram fought Elijah and the man helping him, he wanted to tell his son to stop it. But then Mr. Meijer got involved...
Ben struggled fiercely once again against the hold of the two men. "Leave him alone, you bastard, or I'll break your neck!" he yelled. "Bram! Don't talk to 'im! Go to your sisters!"

Well that was going well. Clearly Mr. Meijer was only riling Ben up more. He stepped forward, closer to Mr. Meijer, hoping to scare him off. "Bram, ye 'eard yer father. Come on, we'll get ye 'ome."

"You did, ma'm," said Tristan. He reached down and awkwardly took the rim of her skirt and pulled it down to cover her. But then he turned to the man underneath the bike first, because he seemed more injured.
He lifted the bike and lay it aside. Then he knelt by Mehmet side to inspect for injury. "Does it hurt anywhere? Did you hit your head?" Then he looked up at the crowd that was still watching the drama unfold. "Any doctor nearby for the lady!?" he yelled.

Christine looked to the woman now known as Alice as she rest a hand on Anne's shoulder. 'I was going to get a carriage to take you and your ..sisters?" She glanced at the others feeling like she had it right. "Take you all home." They would prefer it to staying there, she herself was half tempted to get someone to help her put this boat away and go back to the quiet comfort of her bookstore.

Elijah sighed heavily at the boy then frowned at Ben and held his arm firmly even though he was already cuffed. "He hasn't attacked anyone, Ben. Now stop fighting us!" He pulled him harder to get him out of there but did look at the boy. "Go home with your sisters. Your father will be fine, but he does need to be punished when he's broken the law." And how many times has he gotten away with it? "He can't get a free pass to do what he likes because he's your dad, I'm sorry.'
