"Oh dear." The doctor said, grasping his forehead. "Poor lad. You are right. I have been getting a lot of such pranks lately, that's why I thought... well, tell the poor kid I'm sorry. If ever he or a family member is sick, I'll give them a free consultation. But I haven't seen the girl, unfortunately. Was it urgent?"

Elijah smiled, happy that the doctor was so apologetic. "I don't think it was, but not certain yet. " He looked up at the man, "Ah, and I'll be bringing the boy later as he was wanting an apology. I'm sure he'll feel better that you are so very sorry about it."

The doctor seemed awkward but nodded. "Bring him in. And I hope you find the lass."

By now it was coming to three and a thick fog was blowing in from sea, covering the town and stretching out over the moors beyond. Meanwhile, the sun was traveling down fast.

"Thank you..' Elijah said and he soon found himself in an area where most of the brothels were. He was trying to ask door to door if the girls had been seen, having to repeat over and over that he promised he wasn't arresting anyone or wanted to get anyone in trouble. He was losing all hope and felt like his faith in the world with it. "Where could they be?"

"Elijah!" Will came running towards him. "Whatever are you doin' talking to them?"

Elijah walked to Will. "What are you doing here? I'm looking for your sisters, and I've ran out of ideas.'

"I'm lookin' for them. But certainly they wouldn't mingle with..." He gestured in the direction of the building.

Elijah shrugged. "If someone is scared and desperate they may run to those that others will not look. No matter what they'd normally feel." He wasn't trying to explain things in a way to suggest the possible truth to Will.

Will looked uncomfortable. "Well..." He didn't want to think that any of his siblings could fall so deep. "I don't know what she'd be so desperate about..."

It was getting dark. "Don't you think she'll come home when it gets too cold to be out?"

Elijah clenched his jaw, "Lots of people can have secrets, Will. Even your sisters. I could only guess, but I don't know. "He shrugged and sighed looking at the brothels. 'Unless she found a place for the night."
