Elijah smiled back. "Alright, help me keep an eye out for Ed or anyone you don't recognize around here." He was hoping he could have Bram keep him company since whoever it was seemed to have gotten away.
Bram looked confused. "Why Ed? He wouldn't steal from us." He liked Ed. And sometimes they argued. And now he stayed away from Ed for father had threatened him. But he still admired the older boy, who was tough, but sometimes kind to Bram.
Elijah wanted to be delicate. "Ed can act out and he has even less than you so he tends to.. take. And he could if he saw his chance. I've never seen the boy to show much loyalty. I want to believe he wouldn't take from a friend. But I don't know..."
Elijah gently placed a hand on his fist. "We don't know for certain. We haven't even seen him in the area. And whoever did it will go to jail, not hang. I don't hang theives."
