The weather was indeed fine for a stroll. Even out of uniform, Bert walked like a policeman: slow gate, arms clasped behind him, head gently moving. He couldn't ignore the need to aware of what was going on around him. Still, Bert's well practiced pace provided the occasion to talk about topics near, far, dear, or casual.

"Tis a fine day wit' ye around, Albert..." She really wished she could call him "Bert" but they weren't quite there yet. "I was hopin' ta see ye today too. I have been t'inkin' about ye. Wonderin how ye've been doin', ye know?" She smiled as they walked.

Bert had been thinking about her too. Not in that beloved-atop-an-ocean-swept-cliff-top sort of way, but in the cozy recollection of their shared bakery experiences. Yum.

"Is that so? What do ye think I've been doin'?"

"Besides upholdin' t'e law? Mmm, perhaps ye were eatin' the same pastry we met o'er." She grinned softly. "I had one today, meself," she murmured.

That was a delicious thought. "Well, I 'aven't had anythin' sweet today. So, Delilah, tell me more about yerself? All I know about ye is that yer fond of pastries and policemen.."

"Not much ta tell," she said, "I was born in Ireland, of course, lived a good childhood wit' me ma and da," she went on. Her eyes met his then, but they were somewhat sad for a moment, "Met me husband and married him, lost him. Been livin' me life ever since."

"Surely, there's more to ye than that. Like if ye have brothers and sisters, if ye like brass bands, what ye favourite flower is.."

"Me favorite flower is the one ye gave me when last we saw each ot'er." She gave a grin. "Me favorite color is blue but I like yellow too. Brass bands? I like t'ose too."

Bert nodded deeply at this new information. Perhaps on some future day the two of them could stroll down to the bandstand and listen to the music together.

"I'll remember that, then."

"What about ye?" she asked softly. Her head tilted as she peered at him.
