Oh, like they weren't screwed already.

Gareth moved towards the sound of Quentin's voice. Being trapped in the pitchblack dark while surrounded by human remains was really his favourite way to spend a day out.

She abandoned the scorched jacket and moved to search for the torch she had dropped. When she had it, she started following Quentin's voice. "We're lucky neither of us got hurt, especially when the hammock caught fire. I thought we were about to go up in smoke." Her voice was shaky as she spoke. Indeed, it was a good thing she remembered that fire needed air and smothering it while it was small saved them from certain doom... but she wasn't letting it get to her head. She found her way eventually to climb out of the hole that they had fallen into.

"We wouldn't have gone up in smoke."

Quentin says from up above as he feels some of the slack leave the rope. This let him release his grasp on the iron fastening he'd been lucky enough to snag and get himself, well not on his feet but into a more comfortable seated position.

"We might have died of smoke inhalation though its a large cave, we could have taken refuge in the water and survived the fire in theory. Luckily the wood is damp or it could have been far worse." Ships were floating tinder boxes usually but without the upkeep of the sailors it hadn't been as and as it could have been.

It isn't long before he has his torch lit again and he shines it down the hole, only two of the boards had actually cracked, so that was fortunate, the two furthest from the braces it seemed. With the benefit of light the two in the hole would see they were surrounded by hammocks and a fair number of skeletal bodies.

Oh great, now they were discussing how they could or could not have died. This really wasn't his day. When Quentin lit his torch, he found his own, but then looked around and swore loudly. He was standing in a graveyard. He looked up. "You think you can pull me out?" He definitely wanted out.

Gareth was just a big child, she thought as he seemed to nearly shit himself at the sight of all of the skeletal remains. They're already dead, she wanted to scream. But she kept her mouth shut as she climbed out, grabbing her bag she nearly forgot on her way up. "Even still. Let's not," she said flatly when it came to smoke inhalation and all that. She didn't bother to dust herself off and there was a smudge of soot on her cheek a moment later then she tucked away at her hair.

"Potentially, but I doubt you'd enjoy it much."

Quentin says as he looks down the hole.

"I'll untie myself, see if you can find Clair's torch and we can get that lit. It shouldn't take you long to find the ladder back up to the main deck."

Even a frigate of this size wasn't so large that you could get lost on it.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? He wasn't going to walk through this graveyard alone. But he also didn't want to tell that he was a coward. He found his torch and tossed it up.

She didn't say anything as they waited for Gareth to join them on safer footing. Her eyes drifted over to Quentin in the meantime, and she looked like she was still having fun despite having seen dead bodies.

Quentin catches the torch, lights it, and then passes it back down to Gareth before undoing his tether to the man. Once that was done and Clair was untethered he takes a few moments to look around the deck. It doesn't take him long to find the exit that Gareth should head toward and Quentin gets the door open and waves his torch to attract Gareth to it.

Gareth didn't know what was worse, being in the dark while surrounded by dead people, or having a torch to light up new spots with dead people as he moved. He found the exit just as Quentin opened the door and stepped out, relieved. "Thanks," he said. His wet clothes felt strange on him, as he seemed to shiver and sweat under them at the same time.
