Perrine gave a soft huff of laughter. "Oh, I think it will be." The lantern light brought into view a wrecked schooner as they kept walking, the same ship she'd found yesterday morning. The stern, broken off from the rest of the ship, was mostly up out of the water and half of the prow was underwater, with the belly of the wrecked beast firmly stuck on the side of the sandbar. Perrine started to point out good places to look and how to avoid getting splinters or scrapes (she handed him a pair of gloves from her pocket as well). She meant to search what of the prow she could without getting too wet and so she sent Anthony to search the schooner's middle and stern, intending to go over them after him once she was done with the prow. "Look for chests, armoires, crates, any sort of container. Sometimes there're notches in the walls that've been knocked loose from the crash- rich folk like their secret compartments, an' if your lucky, you might find one with something of value." Perrine's brow furrowed and she grabbed Anthony's arm if he turned to do as she said. "And if you see any, well, any bodies- call for me." Shipwrecks weren't always a cut-and-dry affair, especially considering this one had to be fairly new or it would have been clearly picked clean by other Beachcomber before now.

Anthony looked at the wreck that the lanternlight had exposed to them. He nodded in acknowledgment as Perrine began to speak yet again, but he was really only half-listening to her. This all was nothing like what he expected it to be. Maybe it was just that all the euphoria from the drinking had worn off by now and that he was tired, but he really didn't want to go and look around the ship. Regardless of his own thoughts about this, though, Anthony started to walk where Perrine told him to — or, rather, would have done that had she not grabbed his arm as he tried to do so. "..Oh. Okay," he nodded, before finally heading off. There really was nothing encouraging in this entire place, was there? Anthony went to go and search for the things Perrine mentioned, though it could barely be called 'searching'. Really, he just cast one glance at everything, and if he didn't instantly see what he was looking for, he just gave up.

In her searching about the prow, Perrine found a handful of items worth a few shillings- a half-empty bottle of ink, three flasks of oil, a chipped set of ceramic plates, and a small pouch of sugar -but nothing worth a full meal or a night of drinking. She came out of the prow with the limber nature of a prowling cat, rather remarkable considering the amount of alcohol she'd consumed only an hour or so ago, and tied back her hair as the wind picked up a little. She should wrap up this search soon in case the weather changed abruptly (as it often did on the seashore) and so Perrine headed into the belly of the ship, dropping down through the main hatch on the floor. "Anthony?" Didn't seem like he was in here, he must have gone to the prow. Well, he probably saw her lantern light disappear down here, and the hatch was open in case he needed to call down for her. She started looking about and winced at a decomposing body in the shadows. Two years ago, she would have turned and vomited, then promptly left, but she'd developed a stronger stomach in the time since then. The cargo hold, further below, was mostly undamaged and only a foot underwater; this surprised Perrine considering this part of the ship was at least ten feet below the normal water level. There were barrels of spices and gunpowder that had been ruined by the water and thus were of no monetary worth- but then when she lifted the lid off a barrel far in the corner, her eyes widened. She quickly put the lid back on and looked around for a large piece of cloth, or something similar- there, a damp piece of sail. She slung it over the body, murmuring a Christian prayer in French for the dead man, then called up through the hatch, "Anthony? Anthony, I think you'll want to see this!"

Anthony was very close to just abandoning this place and going home — the only reason he didn't do that was because it was dark and he didn't know the way back. So he was just forced to remain here. He walked and looked around for a bit, though it was only for show, and he didn't actually cast a second glance towards anything he saw. Too tired to try and put in the effort for that. It was only when Perrine called for him  that he started giving a shit about this all. He walked towards where she was, mildly curious about what it was that made her call for him like that. "What? What is it?"

Perrine saw Anthony's shadow through the hatch before she saw him, and when she heard him drawing nearer, she put her lantern down and jumped up as high as she could, just enough to grab the rim of the hatch with her hands. Hanging on with her left hand, she beckoned with the other, replying, "Come down here, I've found something worth more than anything I've ever scrounged up from wrecks like these." Hoping he got the message, she dropped down and picked up the lantern again, then grabbed a tattered rope ladder as an afterthought and tossed it up through the open hatch. "Tie this to something, would you? It'll be easier to get out that way."

Anthony looked curiously at Perrine. "Oh. Okay." So she found something worthwhile? That sounded exciting. He didn't get excited, though. He did what she told him to — he tied the ladder to something, and also went down to where she was. "Hope this is something good," Anthony muttered to himself. He wasn't about to get his hopes up, though.

Perrine grinned, the awe of what she'd found wearing off into rational excitement. "Oh, it is," she promised, overhearing Anthony's muttering, and led him down the steep wooden steps into the cargo hold. She could feel the cold of the seawater through her boots, but not the actual water, so she didn't much mind. She waded over to the barrel and opened it again with Anthony at her side. "Regardez!Look!" At first glance, all one could see was black ashes and chunks of coal, but as Perrine moved her lantern to fully illuminate the barrel's contents, she brushed away the top layer of soot with a gloved hand. Blackened by the surrounding ash and coal, four pistols laid on a surprisingly shallow surface. "These are worth at least 100 pounds each- look at them!" Indeed, despite their slight tarnish, the guns were in surprisingly good shape, and one could see the patent Colt logo.

Perrine, knowing full well that the inside of this barrel was much too shallow for its exterior shape, pushed around in the soot after handing Anthony the guns to put down on the top of another nearby barrel, warning him to make sure they didn't get wet. As she'd suspected, where the pistols had laid was a false bottom, and she found a crease in the corner of the wooden circle to pull it up. What laid beneath brought back another wave of awe to Perrine's mind and she gestured frantically for Anthony to look with her. "Par la volonté de Dieu...[i]" Indeed, 'by God's will' was a proper reaction, for underneath the false bottom laid a pile of glimmering silver coins. How the crew of this ship had come upon this treasure, Perrine didn't know nor did she much care- it was just so much. She picked one up, silent in her astonishment, and studied it- it wasn't a very old coin, minted in 1876 with something in Spanish on the side, as Perrine gathered. "[i]Pièces de huit," she murmured, then repeated it in English, "Pieces of eight, from Spain. Each one is worth about five pounds-" She'd done a lot of research on currency exchange rates when she'd treasure-hunted with Renaud. "-but with so many- look around, see if there's any more."

Anthony followed Perrine into the cargo hold, suspending his excitement for now. He wasn't actually thinking that there'll be anything interesting or particularly valuable there, so he chose to not get his hopes up. Looking into the barrel as Perrine opened it, at first glance he was...disappointed. Was she joking. That skepticism disappeared rather quickly, though, when she brushed away the layer of soot, and lo and behold — four pistols. That in itself was not so surprising. It was Perrine's diagnosis of how much they cost, that was surprising. "Holy shit." A hundred pounds is a lot of money.

He took the guns and laid them down on another barrel delicately, careful not to ruin the goods. This was a pleasing enough catch, and he was expecting to be able to take the guns and go, now — he wasn't sure whether he was pleased or not by it not being the end of this. He returned to Perrine's side as she called him back, and looked at the... the coins? Was that what they were? He couldn't see well right now. "You're fucking with me." That was the only explanation. Regardless of his disbelief, he did as she told, and went to carefully look for more.

Perrine started laughing, but it was more of a sharp inhale and shaky exhale sort of amusement. "Mon amie, if I was fucking with you, I'd have said gold, or opium." As she started recovering from the shock, she joined Anthony in searching the rest of the barrels, but no cigar. She returned to that precious barrel a few minutes later and held her lantern out over it, her jaw dropping just a little. "Take a look for yourself," she offered Anthony, moving aside a little but keeping the light above the plethora of Spanish coins. She'd tucked one into her pocket, the one she'd picked up at first to examine, but she forgot about, having placed it there as a treasure-hunter's habit.

Anthony laughed as well. "Now that would be nice," he joked. "but this'll do, I guess." He was still kind if expecting some sort of realization or something that this wasn't real and those things weren't valuable, but it hadn't arrived. Might as well dwell in that excitement as long as he could. He turned back to looking at the things they'd found already as Perrine invited him to do that again. "Well..." he didn't finish his sentence. What was there for him to say? Nothing. He was just... unsure of what to feel about this all, though most of the feelings were positive. Holy shit, if someone buys these things... they're gonna have more money than they know what to do with.
