Perrine fell into hearty laughter again and this time she was mostly unable to stop herself. Before too long, the bartender sent the serving girl over to tell them to shut their traps or get on out of the bar- and since Perrine couldn't seem to help her laughter, she stood up, fumbling and failing to catch her hat as it fell off her head again, and said through giggles that she'd go. She looked to Anthony. "Coming?" That sent her into further laughter and, if he left the bar with her, they were practically pushed out by the serving girl, who was shaking her head at their drunken fun.

Anthony was laughing way too hard at this. His laughter stopped for a moment as they were essentially just kicked out of the pub, and so he just stood up and followed after Perrine — or, rather, would have followed after Perrine, had her little comment not made him laugh like an insane man again. He nodded in response, trying to stifle his laughter, and followed her out of the bar, finally.

"Hey, hey, hey," he started talking again, wanting to get her attention. "okay, listen to me, listen — we should. Go to the beach. And we should do that bitchcomewhatever thing. Really." He was having way too much fun to just say his goodbyes and leave her.

Perrine nodded with a wide grin and started towards her cottage home. "Follow me," she said, then added, realizing just how dark it was outside, "although it's definote- definint- definitely harder to look at night, with a lantern, 'specially 'cause the tide can creep up on you if you aren't payin' attention." She stumbled on a loose cobblestone and grabbed Anthony's arm for support, shouting much louder than she meant to, "MERDE!" She started giggling, probably sure the curse translated through her tone, volume, and reason for it, and started chanting, "Merde, merde, merde, merde!" as she let go of Anthony's arm and spun in a little circle, laughing and chanting in turn. After a solid minute, she stopped and paused for breath before mentioning with a wink, "Merde is French for 'fuck', if you didn't guess."

Anthony smiled as she accepted his little offer, and he followed after her with pleasure. "Yeah, that's—" but he was interrupted. He wasn't sure exactly what  he was interrupted by, but it was sure was something. He looked very confused at her little display, at first, but he started laughing again (though much less than before) as she explained herself. "So– so you were just going 'fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck?" It was much funnier now that he realized that. He laughed much louder this time.

Perrine kept laughing along with Anthony as they turned down the streets of the poorer side of town toward the beach. The smell of the sea was growing stronger each step they took, and Perrine found it was starting to clear her headache, as well as restoring some of her balance. "Yep!" she replied, swinging around a lamppost in a playfully-dramatic manner, and pointed down to the pier, which was lit by what appeared to be a hundred or so lanterns. "It's like that for the ships," she explained and led them toward the nearest dock, "but 'cause there's barely any that come in at night in th'winter, the dockies let me an' the other few of us beachcombers take one or two for night searches." As if on cue, one of the dockhands waved to her and stood up from the barrel fire he and a few others were sitting around. "Training a new fella, Perri?" asked the man, the wrinkles around his eyes creasing up in a small smile, and she grinned and replied, "Indeed, Ro, s'hand over a lantern or two an' we'll be out of your hair." Ro, who Perrine was decently acquainted with, grimaced at how drunk she seemed (which was a decent amount compared to how she usually operated on alcohol) but took down two lanterns anyhow. Perrine patted her pocket to make sure she still had her sooty handkerchief and a box of matches in her pocket (the handkerchief was for drying off a wet wick and the matches were to light it again) and, finding that she did, turned away from the pier with a lopsided salute to Ro. "This way." And they went back to the side road they'd came to the pier on but took a left now, and as the road turned from gravel to hard earth to sandy dirt, fewer and scantier houses began to appear along the path.

Anthony did not like the beach or the sea in general, but he was willing to try and put his fear aside for the sake of this one night. He grinned like a fool as he kept following Perrine closer towards where the beach was. His smile faltered for a moment as she started talking to another person, and he tried to figure out what it was that they were talking about — he eventually gave up and just chose to wait it out.It was with relative pleasure that he started to follow her as she began to walk again, further away from town itself and closer and closer to the beach. "What are we doing?" He didn't know.

"First things first," she replied, the sea air clearing her senses enough for her to remember what she'd learned over the last few years, "you need boots. I have an extra pair of rubber 'uns in my shed, so we're going there first." And indeed, as they walked over a small dune, a small cottage appeared with a ramshackle shed attached to its side. Perrine waved for him to look around if he wanted as she fetched the boots (those of which would likely fit him, as she was an inch taller than him and thus the slight but similar height difference would compensate for any slightly larger feet of his) and also two well-worn scarves. The wind tended to nip at one's neck and face when out on the seashore and sandbars, and although tonight had been light in the ways of wind, Perrine wanted to be prepared. She came out of the shed and kicked the door shut behind her with a grace she hadn't had in the tavern. It seemed that closer to the sea and her cottage, she felt more at home and thus more focused.

Anthony looked down at his boots for a moment. Were they just not good enough for her? Nevermind. He just blindly followed her to her shed. Once they had arrived, he just looked around curiously. Not the nicest of places, for sure. Actually, that was kind of an understatement. He turned his full attention back to her as she returned with the gear. To be fair, he hadn't expected this much of a preparation just for beachcombing — he really just wanted to come here for the jokes, but oh well, it was too late to go back now. "Yay, cool, awesome," he exclaimed, getting just the tiniest bit impatient now. "can we go, now?"

Perrine grinned at his impatience and handed him the pair of boots and a scarf. She then 'suited up' herself as he, she assumed, did the same and she pointed out to the dunes a little further off. "There's where the tide's always low enough to cross to the sandbars. Try any other place within a mile o'here an' you'd find yourself waist deep at low tide and full-under at high." She started trekking and beckoned for Anthony to follow her. "I gave you the boots because yours aren't meant to wade through water," she added as a light breeze swirled around them, sand swishing against the heels of their boots, "an' I wouldn't want you to catch a cold from the water."

Anthony did the same as she did, and started to kinda regret saying that they should come here. Nevermind. Nothing he can do about it now except just try and wait it out. He nodded in acknowledgment as Perrine spoke, and followed after her when she began to walk again. "Oh. Isn't that nice of you."
