Elijah waved and went home to hide the money and get to work.

That afternoon, Simon knocked. He had spent some time in the church, but had then started wandering about, careful that he was not seen by anyone he knew. He had gone home at last to gather the money. Rose had been there and she had wanted to know why he was not on the boat, and why he had been out, and why he was such a prick. Simon had apologised, but had told her that if she did not want him to get into more trouble, she should not tell father he had been home. Finally, his sister promised to keep quiet, reluctantly, and they had sat inside for a while, Rose trying to talk sense into him. Simon had told her he would be a better man now. Rose had seemed skeptical. Then he had taken the money he now hid at a different spot - Rose hadn't said anything - and had left for Elijah's.

Elijah let him in, careful no one saw. He didn't want him to get into trouble. "Alright.. thank you Simon. I will keep it safe." He smiled weakly and went to his room. Under the bed was a loose board and inside was a metal box. He put the money inside with the rest of Simon's money. "No one knows about this but you. So it is safe..."

"Thanks, Elijah. You're a life-saver."

Yeah. Not too fast, Simon.

Elijah shook his head. "It's nothing. You just need a break.."

"Thank you." he repeated and then left.
