Quote:To the Dutiful Not-Richard:
I must ask your forgiveness of my wishes, then.
I hope that you are left seeking. I hope that none of the women show, and that none of the men’s miseries are nearly as lovely as mine. I hope your misery sends you back to your post box and back to your desk, yearning for naught but the touch of an enigmatic swordfish.
Maybe not an enigmatic swordfish in the flesh, but the spirit of one.
I had never thought of ‘tomorrow’ that way. It is profoundly poetic, and fills me with yearning. How did I live without your wisdom? How can you expect me to return to life without it? Who says this has to be a romantic exchange, that must be banished once you marry? Perhaps we are just two lone souls who share a connection untainted by more than a most platonic love.
Besides, I have complete faith that you will inform me at once of a betrothal, that I might not embarrass us both with details such as a 16 centimeter package to send you on a lonely night.
Sincerely,
-Swordfish
Unfortunately for Swordfish, R. S. showed up.
