That made him uneasy. His family was complicated enough as it was. He didn't like the idea of this woman growing too attached to his daughter, or his daughter to the wetnurse. He still hoped his wife would come to her senses and be a mother. And yet he didn't have the heart to tell her no when he had just learned how friendless and ill-treated she was. He smiled.
