Y'ell have ta learn ta take care of yerself. If I can do it, anyone can do it." He patted him on the shoulder and then said, "I won't charge ye fer the food, but ye will have ta make yer own, earn the bread ye make yer sandwich wit'."

He truly did want the lad to succeed, he was setting him up for success, or so he thought he was doing. "I believe ye, boy. Come back tomorrow, bright and early. If ye ain't here by sun up, I'll assume ye're not interested and the door will be locked." He was using the same exact tactic that had been used with him.
