Rose blushed. She did not want to be rude to Pearl and felt embarrassed. She sat back down. "It's not that I don't want to... It's that me father wouldn't like it." she tried to explain. "He says folk like us should be careful in acceptin' anything from the wealthy." He had also said she couldn't be friends with Pearl, but Rose wouldn't share that.
