"I have ta be sweet to be a good baker," he said with a wink as they moved toward the old town. When asked about his family, he was quiet for a long moment, not liking to go there. But he liked her, maybe even more than just a little, and he said, "Well... I am an orphan, sad ta say. I got lucky to become an apprentice to a baker I once tried to pilfer from as a child. He gave me a place to stay and work and food ta fill me belly."
