Perrine saw Anthony's shadow through the hatch before she saw him, and when she heard him drawing nearer, she put her lantern down and jumped up as high as she could, just enough to grab the rim of the hatch with her hands. Hanging on with her left hand, she beckoned with the other, replying, "Come down here, I've found something worth more than anything I've ever scrounged up from wrecks like these." Hoping he got the message, she dropped down and picked up the lantern again, then grabbed a tattered rope ladder as an afterthought and tossed it up through the open hatch. "Tie this to something, would you? It'll be easier to get out that way."
