Another Sunday in Whitby. He certainly hadn't signed up for this constant traveling, but it was the only was to keep his wife from becoming completely hysterical. At least now his old school friend Tristan was in town and after joining the his in-laws for church, Tobias had been delighted to have an excuse not to join them for Sunday dinner.

Now he was sitting in one of the inns that had a courtyard for his wagon, and was waiting for Alice to return so they could go home. She was probably going to be late. Like last time. He wasn't even sure if it was accidental. In fact, he had been counting on it so much, that he had not waited outside but had entered the pub and ordered a drink to kill time. As he was sipping his ale, he checked his new pocket watch. It was one minute past four. See? She was late.

Another Sunday, indeed. Anthony was feeling a lot better than before. He still had the black eye and limp, and still felt quite ill, but he wasn't about to complain about that. He hadn't properly stretched his legs for quite a bit of time, now, so he had gone on a walk that eventually ended with him entering the closest pub there was.

Anthony got a drink, went to go stand quietly and awkwardly in some corner, and indulged in it. He finished his drink rather quickly, and then emerged from his little corner to get himself a second one. He felt much better about himself now that there was some alcohol in his system.

Ten past and she was still not here. Just great. Tobias glanced across the pub and sighed, but stopped in the middle of the sigh to hold his breath. Him again. Tobias was suddenly glad that Alice was late. He picked up the bowler hat that he had placed beside him and put it back on his head, pulling it forward so as to hopefully hide his face a little. He lowered his head and looked down at the table. He wasn't here.

Anthony felt great. This was turning out to be a wonderful day. He held his glass and cast a glance across the place. It wasn't very crowded and he wasn't drunk enough for it to impair his senses in any notable way, so he noticed Tobias even despite the efforts the fellow made for that not to happen. He seemed awfully down. Was he alright? Anthony, ever so confident and ever so clueless, made his way over to him, and announced his presence by loudly placing his glass down on the table. "Hello," he greeted, stressing the second syllable.

Tobias dared not look up, until the noise of the glass being put down told him his efforts had failed. He cringed a little at the noise and realization, and then looked up with the most neutral expression he could muster. "Oh, hello..." he said, as if he only saw the man now and was surprised. "What happened to you?"

Well, shit. He hoped Alice was very late indeed.

The fellow didn't seem very thrilled. Wonder why. Anthony was about to get a bit offended over the question, and then realized what it was about. "A few punches. Are you alright?" He seemed very down, indeed. Anthony was not smart enough to pick up on why it was so.

He frowned at that reply. This really was a rough town, wasn't it? But then he remembered what the man was like, and realized that the odds of Anthony being punched were probably not representative for the general population. "Sorry to hear. Aye, I'm just fine." He had been finer a minute ago. "You seen a doctor for that?"

"That's good," Anthony nodded, taking his word as the truth. He permitted himself to take both a seat and a gulp of his drink. He put his elbows on the table, and rest his head on his hands. "I have, actually. So, it's all good. What about you? Is everything fine, injury-wise?" This guy was the one who got beat up, right? Right. He didn't remember much from that day, so he was just gonna bank on that being it.

Tobias really preferred not to think on the night he was attacked. And he certainly felt no desire to discuss that embarrassing night with this man. "Oh yeah. All's good now. Didn't get my things back, but I'm healed." He looked at the door. No sign of Alice yet. That was good. But also bad.

"That's good, that's good," nodded Anthony, and took another sip of his drink. "well, not the not getting your stuff back thing, but the healing thing, I mean..." And then he went quiet. He'd not the slightest idea of what he could say, now.
