"Well, why not?" asked the idiot.

He just stayed silent and raised his eyebrows, giving the man some time to try and figure it out for himself.

"I think ye said ye don't have any family..." Tobias said when the man remained quiet.

"Huh? When did I say that?" And what did that have to do with anything?

"Last time we talked?" Tobias replied, a little surprised by the man's defensiveness. "Never mind...."

"Oh. Right." That made sense. "But that wasn't what I was getting at, anyways."

"What's the issue then?" Tobias said, rather reluctant to pry on now, but feeling like he couldn't drop it now that the other man had picked it up again.

"I don't think you've noticed, but I'm really fucking broke."

Tobias clenched his jaw when the man swore like that. "I figured," he said, a little harsher than he intended. "But there's no difference between being broke her and being broke in a different town... except ye might be safer there." He shrugged. "It was just a suggestion anyway."

"Yeah, it was a suggestion for sure." Not a good suggestion, but still a suggestion. "But, thanks, I guess. I guess I'll think about it." He won't.
