At four in the morning, there was a rapping on Elijah's door.

Elijah looked groggy and surprised at the knock. He wearily got to his feet and pulled on a long sleeved shirt and his gloves before answering the door. He had to stifle a yawn as he ran a hand through his hair to try to smooth it from its ruffled state. "Morning?" He blinked to see who was there.

But there was no one there. Not left. Not right. The street was deserted. Unless Elijah were to look down, right in front of his feet. There was a bundle that, on closer observation was a baby, wrapped in a brown, rather smelly shawl.

Elijah's eyes got wide as he noticed. He carefully lifted the bundle to check the baby. He stepped out to look around some more. "H-hello?! Please is someone there ?" He was not trained for this!

The baby woke up when the man called and began to cry. The street, however, remained empty.

Elijah frowned and paced a bit as he rocked the child trying to quiet it. He had seen women do that  He frowned in worry and was quickly out of ideas. He grabbed a jacket and took the baby with him as he wandered towards Ben. One of his daughters 2oule have an idea about babies. They had their younger siblings after all. 

He only hoped the man wouldn't be too cross about being woken up so early.

The baby fell back asleep and seemed quite comfortable being carried about.

Elijah knocked quick but not hard, hoping to avoid waking the entire household. "Ben? Rose? Someone?"

It was almost time to awake for the family, and Ben sat up. The children stirred. That was Elijah's voice. He quickly put a sweater over his shirt and opened the door.

"Elijah, whatever...." his eyes landed on the bundle in his arms. Alice stepped into the living room in her night gown, but when she saw it was Elijah, she quickly retreated.

Elijah walked in and held the baby out to show him. "Someone left this..this.. " was it a boy or a girl? He had no idea. "Baby on my doorstep. I don't know who or why..or what to do. Should I take it to the church or the hospital ? Why did they leave it at my home?" He was a bit panicked.
