Perrine took his silence as awe and nodded. "It's really something." She gave a low whistle. "We need to find something to carry all this out of here with- a few small chests, maybe a sail tarp, buckets could work too as long as we have something to cover the top with." She started looking around but didn't find much. In her excitement, she remembered she'd put a sail tarp somewhere on the level above, but she didn't recollect why. She told Anthony about the tarp and sent him up to get it while she busied herself with deciding how to best pack the pieces-of-eight and the pistols together. Her mind wandered a little and she suddenly realized- the tarp had been to cover a dead body. Oh, shit.

Anthony nodded as he listened to Perrine talk, and obediently went up in search of the tarp like she had told him to. It took a little bit of aimless wondering until he found what he assumed was the sail tarp that Perrine had put here — and naively just took it. It didn't remain in his hands for long, though. He let out a high-pitched scream and dropped the tarp as soon as he saw what was under it. It was sickening. He felt sick. Anthony looked away as quickly as humanly possible.

Perrine hurried up the steps, one of the Colt pistols still in her hand, and cringed when she saw Anthony trying not to look at the decomposing body. "Sorry about that," she said, turning him away by a touch on the shoulder as she bent to get the tarp. "Forgot that's why I put it there..." So much for keeping Anthony unaware of the darker aspects of beachcombing. "Poor fellow's too far gone to identify, anyhow," she muttered and directed him back toward the steps to the cargo hold, careful to walk on his left side as she did so he'd have something to block his vision from the dead man.

Anthony glanced at the corpse again for but a split-second, and immensely regretted it. He'll probably remember that sight for the rest of his life. Anthony didn't protest against being led away from the body at all, somewhat glad that he won't have to actually look at it ever again. He just nodded slowly as Perrine spoke, a bit too out of it to focus on what she's saying. Maybe he was overreacting about this all, but that was grotesque and nightmarish and... the first dead body he's seen in a very long time. At least the others he saw were less...like this one was.

Perrine ushered Anthony down the steps, then enlisted him in folding up the sail tarp a specific way to make little pockets within its fabric. As they did this and began packing up the pieces-of-eight, she started to hum an old French folk tune, finding it calmed her excitement and chased away some of the booze still messing with her brain.

Anthony did as he was told, and folded the sail tarp in the way that Perrine had guided him to, but he was having trouble as seeing the tarp as anything else other than 'that thing that was covering the body'. He, for only a moment, brushed some loose strands of hair back and away from his face, before returning to the packing at once. He glanced up at Perrine as he heard her hum a tune, but he didn't do the same. There was no reason to.

Once they'd finished packing up, the tarp was decently heavy, too much for a single person to carry- Perrine, although not at all a religious person, decided it was Providence that brought her and Anthony to meet and converge on this ship tonight. "Alright, you take this end," she said, pointing to one end of the tarp where she'd tied a loop that he could put his arm through up the shoulder. She picked up two of the guns and tucked them into a large pocket in her jacket, then did the same with the other two pistols in another pocket. Not for the first time nor the last, Perrine thanked her past self for splurging a little on this coat specifically because of the pockets. "Let's go." She started up the narrow steps and headed past the dead body, hoping Anthony would be able to keep himself together at the sight. "Just don't look," she muttered.

Anthony took the end of the tarp that Perrine had pointed to, without a word. He had nothing to say. He didn't want to say anything. Still completely silent, he walked alongside her up the steps and past the...corpse. Perhaps foolishly, he glanced at the dead body for but a mere moment, again. It didn't cause the reaction one would have expected it to cause. He was much too out of it to even react to the sight anymore.

Perrine found it difficult to hoist the tarp through the last hole, the one Anthony had tied the rope ladder to, so she went up alone and leaned down to take one side again. In this manner, with her pulling and him lifting, they got the tarp all the way up and Perrine called for Anthony to get the lanterns before he came up. The moon was hidden now by a cluster of clouds and she knew the lantern light would be vital to them returning safely to shore.

Anthony kept on doing what he was doing. He wasn't really focusing on the task, anymore. His body was mostly just automatically doing it all for him, but his mind wasn't doing much of anything. "Yeah," he responded and nodded instinctively as Perrine said something yet again, his focus quickly returning for a moment. He took the lanterns with him before he went up, like he had been told to do — and he immediately realized thay they needed them a lot, now. It was much darker than before, which did nothing to help his already frail mental state.
