"I will," she said, "Straight away." She didn't leave just yet, she was caught up in gazing at the man for his kindness. She was having a hard time not shedding tears over this frustrating mess she had gotten herself into by marrying that bastard. She reluctantly pulled away from him before she could make a fool out of herself and try to embrace him, something she wished she could do more and more was the days passed by.

Offering her a smile he watched her go. He felt bad for the woman and for the boy and he was utterly sincere in his desire to see everything possible done for them. But his mind soon wandered and he returned to his experiments as the darker thoughts tried to creep into his mind.

Mister Lane was, naturally, more than amenable to assisting Ruth once she was informed that it was at Master Blackwood's insistence. The butler's duties was to see to Edward's wants and needs so long as they did not harm the Blackwood family name. But there was little worry of that with them so far removed from any social scene.

She sat down with Mister Lane for a time and told him whatever he needed to know, then went to check up on her son and make sure all was well, perhaps to hold him close to her.
