Elijah nodded but frowned, this was all his fault. He thanked her and ran as fast as he could to get to the station.It was exhausting, but he had to make it before the train was there, he couldn't forgive himself. "Please, God.. if you truly do believe in mercy.. let me make it in time."

But when he got to the station, there was no train waiting, and no Gabriel on the platform.

Elijah fell to his knees and covered his face in his hands. How close had he come to catching him. This wasn't fair or right. He just wanted to speak to him and clear things up before the man left, perhaps help him feel better. Now he knew he'd never get the chance.

The station master walked over, rather concerned. "Are you alright, Mr. Crane? Please tell me those girls haven't run away again. I haven't seen them."

Elijah shook his head hanging it low as he turned to start walking back. "I wanted to say goodbye to someone but.. it seems I just missed them. Thank you." He waved and held his face as he couldn't explain why he felt so ripped apart by this.

"Oh..." The station master wondered if it was a lover. The constable certainly seemed very upset. "I'm sorry, Mr. Crane. But I can sure you could send them a wire or letter."

Elijah was about to refuse but he remembered what she'd said. He walked to the man, "I want to send a wire to the Bishop of Middlesbrough for my friend, Father Richards. Can you do that?" He started to dig into his pockets for the money. "It.. won't be a long message."

"I can't leave my post, sir." said the station master, but there's a telegrapher just around the corner, they can send it for ye."

Elijah nodded and felt flushed, he wasn't thinking straight. "Of course, t-thank you." He walked away to the post to send a wire. He was quick to let the man know where he needed it to go. "I'm sure it'll reach him.. "He wasn't sure what to say that wouldn't be revealing but he had an idea.
