Menachem didn't move. He held his breath, watching in case the door swung, he would be ready to fight.

When their father closed the door, Anne and Alice saw the man and started screaming. Anne grabbed the nearest thing - a pillow - and flung it at the man. The door opened again.

Menachem cursed under his breath. He tried to quiet them but it was too late. He was pressed back behind the door but now was quick to drop the pillow and had the case in hand, ready to defend himself.

Ben came storming back in - he should probably have carried something to defend himself. The girls pointed, and Ben stepped in and closed the door - and felt his weak heart skip a beat when he saw the man. Alice grabbed a shoe and threw it.

Menachem growled and stormed the man to knock him on the bed, trying to have the pillow case over his face. "I'm not here to hurt anyone. Just looking for valueables."

Ben struggled, but where once he had been a strong man, he was now no match for this younger man.
But Alice took her other shoe and knocked Menachem over the head with it.
That must feel familiar...
Meanwhile, Will and Bram rushed into the room. Bram carried the family bible, lifted it above his head and threw it at Menachem. It missed and knocked Anne out.

Menachem cried out when he was struck. "Dammit. That hurts." He kept the man down but smirked when the kid knocked out his sister. "Thanks for the help."
He felt Ben was helpless now with the case over his head to give him the head start. He pushed him to the floor and tried to run to the door, ready to barrel past the two kids if he had to.

Will held out his foot to make the man trip, as Alice helped her father up, crying.
Bram, undeterred by his prior failure, ran for the fry-pan.

He caught the foot and it made him hop awkwardly as he tried to keep his balance. He ran towards the door, ready to escape.

Ben had gotten up but had realized Anne was injured and was tending to her. Will and Bram (armed with fry-pan) chased Menachem out into the yard.
