Ruadhán was born in the cold March weather to a working class family. His father was a brick layer who had his own business, it wasn't wealthy but kept food on the table.
He spent his childhood helping his father when he wasn't at school but was always encouraged with his school work which allowed him to leave with grades that weren't bad but wouldn't allow him to stay on past 14.
He would find himself on the building sites around Perth and could often be found up on roofs cementing and building chimney stacks for local companies and clients.
At the age of 18 he would marry his childhood sweetheart Helen but this would be short lived as two years later she fell pregnant with their son but wouldn't see the end of the birth due to blood loss.
He would raise his son as a single parent with the help of his mother but when his son was 3 he applied for the fire service and got a job which would see him spend the next 15 years in Perth.
The memories of his wives death still haunted him and he decided that he needed to change scenery and move.
His transfer request came through and he was offered a position in Whitby that would see him serve for another 8 years and then proceed to becoming Leading Fireman for which he has held the title now for 5 years. |
