Augustine was born with red hair he inherited from his Scottish-born mother. Currently, he has a clean-shaven face, and sometimes he will sport a mustache or beard, especially in the colder months. Auggie likes wearing neutrals to try to blend into the walls if it were. He's able to don his old captain's uniform at a moment's notice if need be though he is tired of war. Auggie's deep greenish-blue eyes always seem to make him look mysterious when he is not trying to be. Standing at 6’2 he is a lot taller than most men or so he thinks and he sticks out like a sore thumb with a slight limp that left him out of action in the service of the Queen. Auggie is doing his best to learn to walk without a cane and can often be seen taking a swig from a silver flask to ease his leg pains after having been injured in the Second Boer War. Auggie loves to wear his father’s silver pocket watch and is often tinkering with it as it’s always a few minutes ahead of schedule and he can never quite get the time right on it. Never marrying, he keeps an old photo of a young woman in his watch as a memento of what could have been. Auggie is usually also seldom seen without a book or some volume when he’s out and about his new home. |

Augustine Wallace Monroe was born February 1st, 1855 in the early hours of the morning, to George and Agnes (Wallace) Monroe. It was a difficult birth and he was said to be a real fighter as he was born aboard a ship that was headed to India. Augustine spent the first twelve years of his life traveling with his merchant father and his mother. Auggie lived in places like Ireland, Australia, and different parts of England and India. When he was in his teens he was sent off to boarding school to become what his mother insisted was a gentleman despite his wild and troublesome ways. Auggie liked to skip his classes in favor of sports and being able to be in nature instead of cooped up for hours reciting lessons and mathematics. He wanted adventure. Living in India, before he was sent off to boarding school, he fell in love with a local girl named Sita. The two were inseparable and he had deep feelings for her. Upon the discovery of the young blooming romance, Agnes told her husband about it and he put an end to it quickly by telling her parents about it. Young love lost, Auggie was sent to England to attend school there and he flourished despite nursing and mending a broken heart.
Graduating near the top of his class Auggie developed a love for books and often read of the different cultures he had come into contact with and wanted to come into contact with. His fellow students loved hearing his stories off all the exotic places he had been. All but one, James Sanford, was the son of a much wealthier man and often lamented how he was not rubbing elbows with more advantaged boys. Sanford took an immediate dislike of Auggie and did everything he could to get him into trouble. In his youth, Augustine was very popular because of his charismatic nature and willingness to be friends with everyone. Living with his grandmother while he was in school, his grandmother was often sent for when he landed in the headmaster’s office time and again for defending his classmates against the Sanford boy. Toward the end of his schooling as a boy, James Sanford would be expelled from the school for his conduct but this would not be the last he saw of him.
Auggie enlisted in the British army when he was old enough to do so and became part of the artillery. Engagement in war was not as exciting as he thought it would be and he went from battle to battle disturbed by how cruel the war made people. Coming to the Boer war, Auggie was disillusioned by the thought of more war and was injured severely putting him out of service. Once home he took up moving elsewhere to start fresh and here we are as he settles into a new life and a new routine. |
