Edward was born as the eldest sibling in a family that went on to have too many girls. his parents had tried for another son but failed and kept producing girls.
Edward studied hard at school and achieved decent grades but not high enough to stay on after 14, his father being a fisherman knew many people in the village and was soon able to find edward work as an apprentice sailmaker.
Edward would study throughout his apprenticeship and master his craft after 5 years but this would be short lived as when he turned 23, his journeyman passed away leaving him without work.
Edward turned to the only thing he knew how to do. he managed to secure a shed on the harbour and some equipment from his journeymans workshop gifted by the family. he poured his savings into starting up his own business. servicing the sails and making new ones for the vessels based in Whitby |
