History: He always knew there was something different about him, even in his reflection as a child. His pale hair and pale eyes set him apart, and even the freckles across his face seemed more akin to constellations than just the marks of days in the sun. Galen was born in in a barn somewhere in Russia. His father an artist and his mother a milkmaid who belonged to the Alps, met when he was taking a course somewhere in the South of France. They shared a meal and broke bread that next morning, but from the very first time he ever heard her voice as it carried down over the snow he vowed to never leave her side.

They were married that very next day, and Galen was born in December of that next year.

Their time was split all over Europe with a traveling show that gave their son a chance to see new things and run the forests without a care in the world. So many came and went and yet always they felt like home and where his own family was small, the community in which he was raised was large and he wouldn’t trade it for the world.

A former musician for the Royal Academy his drinking had him removed from first chair, and his temper later had him removed from it all. He took up jobs from here to there but finally auditioned (and poorly) for the traveling acts, and from the very first time Gale heard the man play he fell in love.

Pestering the man until he agreed to allow him to practice he picked it up quickly, and from dawn to dusk he played. When he wasn’t borrowing the cello he was plunking away at the keys of the old ivory piano or humming along to some imaginary tune that he never truly explain where it came form. He was what the old masters would have called a prodigy.

With a renewed interest and passion of music, Galen’s instructor talked his parents into having him audition for the Royal Academy of Music in London, but without the chance of raising the funds it was a wild dream Galen held to for most of his teenage years. Despite his family’s hardships and the spell of addiction his parents suffered, he went to his first audition on the whim of his master at sixteen, and was invited to attend the following semester.

His parents both embarrassed and angry that they had let their boy down, promised to put their own lives on hold to see that the funds were raised that summer, but by the time the dawn came they were gone on the next train. With only their lodging paid until the end of the week and just a few coins in his pocket, Galen set up his case upon the square and played for the amusement of those that passed. It was clear that by the fall semester he would not have the funds prepared, but was admitted to work part time for the conductor as an assistant. With an another part time job as well his street performances, Gale was able to tuck away enough to begin what could be a career in music.

Tormented by not being of the same elevated station as so many of his classmates, he felt the ruthlessness of their words and unkind eyes until it ate at the very part of his soul, and by the time it came to pay for the second year his instructor had gambled away what was left of their small savings and even the cello itself. Humiliated and heartbroken he packed what was left and took to the streets unsure where to go, and by the grace of all that was pure he felt the touch of a gloved hand upon his shoulder.

Jean-Luc de Mercier was making his name known throughout London as he did by way of both Paris and Rome, and when he offered the now eighteen year old student of the arts silk to dry his eyes Gale knew he found a home. He was invited to live in his estate, given a modest income and afforded a new wardrobe. With not one but two new instruments to play (one for shows and one to practice) he set forth to the academy with a renewed spirit and a damn spiteful tongue.

For many years now Gale served the Maître de Ballet as a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and to repay the master's kindness he worked in the shadows as a courtesan along with many of the ballerinas in Paris.
