Her mother came from upper class and married a lower class man that she loved dearly. They lived happily together and traveled for a while, especially by boat until he was lost at sea. She came to Whitby with child, back to where he had been born. It took a lot of effort to get everyone to believe that this was not a child out of wedlock and she has managed to get some money from her parents to start a boarding house. It was a place for women to live so that they wouldn't feel the need to depend on men or if they were cast out from their families but she had never advertised it as such. After passing away , her daughter has taken over the business and runs it passionately though a bit strictly at least on the surface. |
