Physical Description: At 16 stone, Joe has youthful features but with a physique of hardened hands and strong arms gained from heavy work. An angular face is topped off with a rowdy mop of cinnamon-coloured hair often crushed under a flat cap.
History: Whitby is all young Joseph, who likes to go by the name Joe, knows. His father is a fireman on the steam engines based out of Whitby Town railway station.

Joe thoroughly enjoys watching his beloved Whitby Town play football and the occasional ale in the pub. He is a young man who is amiable, pleasant, loyal, and devoted to his new wife. However, in many ways, he’s a young man still trying to find himself. He is overly trusting and easily swayed. As the second son, Joe seeks his father’s approval, and being bullied by his older brother has not helped that relationship, but he is protective of his two other siblings - sisters, whether they need it or not.

Attempting to carve out his own path, Joe obtained work as a porter in the goods depot at the railway station. However, he was occasionally called upon to act in a more visible role of porter to assist passengers. Watching the comings and goings from the platform, Joe had the occasional fantasy of just jumping on one of the trains leaving the station and going on an adventure of his own.

In 1895, while working at the station, he helped a young lady in distress by offering her a handkerchief. That lady was Pearl Carrington. He was enraptured by her strength of character, beauty, and kindness. That small action would soon lose him his job, but win him her heart. In the immediate aftermath of his layoff, Joe got drunk enough to land him before a judge, much to his parent's disgrace, and his personal shame.

Shortly afterwards, the truth of his sacking was revealed to be the machinations of Pearl's brother Robert Carrington. As a result, patriarch Magnus Carrington proposed to teach his family a lesson by having Joe assume a coveted position of responsibility in the Carrington business empire and allowed him to court Pearl. However, in an attempt to protect and comfort Pearl, Joe suggested marriage and the two young lovers spontaneously eloped to Gretna Green in Scotland to be wed.

Now husband and wife, they have recently returned to Whitby to face the consequences of their actions. Unable to find work, he recently responded to a local fire brigade recruiting poster, a decision that has turned up the heat at home and set his family's reputation ablaze...

OOC Preferences: Joe's been in some hot water of late, so would probably like to avoid more bad press by involving himself in anything other than honest work. Let's have a chat.
