She was the second-born twin to a Cornish vicar and his wife who sadly died from complications of birth. Her father, while a loving man, was not sure how to raise a young lady. Amelia was fostered out while her brother remained.
Her life was a lonely existence as she was growing up, for she was ever in the background, quiet as a church mouse. She did receive a sound education, learning to read and write, do mathematics, et cetera. She went on to finishing school and bloomed there like a flower. She especially loved learning about art and became particularly fond of oil painting.
When she was through with school, she set off for Whitby in hopes of finding work as a governess. |
