Arthur was born just outside of York, into the British aristocracy. He was the second of five children. The eldest and the fourth died in infancy. As such, Arthur grew up with his younger brother and sister. He barely saw his parents when he was a child, although when he was a little older, his father would make some time for him every week, to test his learning progress. His father was a politician and had high expectations of his children.
After having been homeschooled for several years, Arthur was sent to one of England’s most prestigious boarding schools, to prepare him to become someone important. After school, he attended the university of Oxford. The environment and family connections helped him move ahead quickly, and he soon managed to get involved into the local politics in York and Yorkshire county. His younger brother grieved his father by not pursuing a political career, but starting a business instead. His sister grieved both her parents by eloping with a middleclass man. Arthur is evidently the most successful child and he treats it like a vocation.
Arthur’s first wife gave him six daughters, but their only son died. Arthur did take in his sister’s son when his sister died unexpectedly, in case he wouldn’t have a male heir at all, but he did so reluctantly. He did not want anyone to ask uncomfortable questions about his sister and he feared that the child would bring bad middleclass values and habits and blood into the family. He kept the boy away from his daughters at first and only allowed the children to interact when his nephew had adapted to his new life. Arthur is particularly attentive to the child’s behavior and often criticizes him. The fact that he now spends most of his time at boarding school must be a huge relief to boy.
After having given birth to seven children, Arthur’s wife died giving birth to the eight child, along with the baby. Roughly three years later, Arthur married a very young woman, Evaine, with whom he had a son at last. Arthur and the family spent many holidays in Whitby and Arthur finally decided to move the family residence there, and buy a townhouse in York for his business there. He is now involved in politics, and in order to get local support, he is setting up a charitable organization that seeks a home or fitting situation for Whitby’s orphans and street children.
