Instructions for the Regatta tub race:
Spoiler:
- The tub race is the last of the Regatta races and takes place IC on Monday the 19th of August. This is a race between individual competitors. All participants must provide their own tub and oar.
- You are allowed to sign up multiple characters as well as NPCs, so long as it is one person per tub.
- When signing up, please list the character’s name and a score representing their chance of winning in terms of experience, talent, physical state, state of gear, etc., on a scale from 0 to 5. (For example: 0: They are drunk, they have never done this before, they are likely to capsize before the race begins, they have bought their tub at the Longbottom workshop, etc.; 3: Decent quality tub and oar, decent at rowing, though never in a tub before, etc.; 5: They’ve been training for this all year, they are skilled seamen, they basically sleep in that tub, etc.).
- Sign up closes on Friday the 1st of July.
- The race will take place through several rounds of dice rolls and subsequent posts. For each character, you will roll a d20 plus 0 to 5 d4’s, depending on the score you gave them in your sign up post. This means that in theory your heavily inebriated character could win, but that the better they are, the higher the chance that they actually will win. Please indicate your character’s name and the race you are rolling for when you roll.
- Rolling an 8 or less total in any single round means that your character’s tub capsizes, crashes, or otherwise sinks and they’re out of the competition. Let’s hope the life boat is on stand by as the organisation promised.
- The ‘finish line’ lies at 100, so the first participant to reach that total or more wins the race. If more than one participant reaches that number in a round, the one with the highest score crosses it first.
- When you have signed up here, you have until Friday the 1st of July to roll for the first round.
- The tub race thread will open on Saturday the 2nd of July. I will post the scores in a spoiler box in the respective competition thread, and everyone gets to post accordingly (e.g: You are now at 12, but the other ones at 20, 28, 16 etc, so your character is starting to fall behind). It is up to you how exactly you interpret these scores in terms of events, so long as it follows the success or failure that the scores and rolls indicate (e.g. You rolled a 6 in total: Maybe your character narrowly avoid crashing into the pier but trying to get back on track takes them so much time, they haven’t made much progress.)
- As soon as the scores have been posted, you may also roll for the next round (until Friday the 8th of July). I will post these scores again on Friday or Saturday, plus the cumulative score, and you can post for that round. If you haven’t rolled before Saturday, I will roll for your character.
- We will continue this weekly cycle until the race is finished.
