"Hrmm, seems like the most likely place for a vault that's for sure."

Quentin muses as they head up towards the building. Getting close revealed that the mansion backed the wall of the cave, its rear wall being nothing but cave stone as they approach. It looked like they'd reused a fair bit of shipyard lumber in the building giving the mansion a bit of a nautical feel as they approach the door. Further from the water, it looked to be in better condition than the rest of the buildings.

Pushing the door open though was unpleasant. The first and most noticeable thing was the copious amounts of dust. The second was the fact that it appeared the main hall of the mansion had been turned into a makeshift hospital. A few of the beds still holding their long dead and decayed occupants, though most were empty. Likely the more healthy had been trying to deal with the sick right until they succumbed themselves.

Gareth jumped a little when Claire's foot went through the wood. "You okay?" he asked. He followed Quentin into the mansion and cursed at what he saw. More long dead bodies. As if he wasn't uncomfortable enough yet.

The question came as a surprise for her but she nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine, thanks." She followed the two carefully again, watching her step more so than before. She did not flinch at the sight of more dead bodies; it was to be expected.

Holding up his torch Quentin eyes the stairs.

"I would like to go up there but I don't think its worth the risk presently. I have to imagine if the vault is within the house then it will be on the first floor. Be careful, the foundation looks sold but we can't be sure of how thick it truly is."

He calls as he picks a door and wanders into it, finding that it leads to a large room that looked like something between a dining hall and a tavern.

That warning was hardly necessary. Gareth had fallen through enough floors for one day. He treaded carefully, testing each floorboard before putting his full weight on it. He moved slowly because of it, and barely looked around, but he stopped when he noticed Quentin picking at a door. He'd keep a safe distance, just in case something would spring out. Nothing did. Carefully, he began to tread on.

She followed the two men through the door, needing no warning either after her foot nearly went through in the first place. Hell, she had enough of falling by then that she was keeping herself as lightfooted as a thief if she could possibly do so. Her eyes went round at the sight of the room.

It doesn't take too long to explore the place. It was large but not so large that you could get lost within. It doesn't take long to find the storeroom at the back and from there it is just a short climb down some rough hewn stairs into... well not a basement since they seem to have travelled away from the house, but a smaller sub cave one section of which was blocked by a cage wall on the other side of which was... Well, it was hard to say for sure since a lot of it was in crates. However, one of those crates had split open and a whole lot of silver had spilled out of the side of it.

"Well."

Quentin says musingly.

"We appear to have found ourselves some treasure."

Gareth's eyes went wide with greed. At last! "Ye think all of those are treasure?" asked Gareth. He knocked on one of the crates to listen whether it was full or empty.

Her eyes widened as well at the sight of the silver. "Wait, there could be a trap..." she said and held her hand up. "Be careful." She was genuinely wary at possibly tripping some trigger that could send them into a pit or something. She looked to Quentin for reassurance on this one.

Gareth was only just able to reach one of the crates through the bars. His knuckles tapping against the wood, which felt damp against his knuckles.

"Hrmm, likely anything they thought of as valuable. I imagine there will be a lot of waste, spoiled spice and ruined fabrics. But I am sure many of the boxes contain hard goods that would have endured."

Quentin observes as he inspects the bar, they weren't quite as rusted as the rest of what he'd seen. Not surprising this little off-shoot cave was further from the water. Still, they'd have to make a return trip with some solavents and open it.

"Congratulations you two, your first treasure appears to have been a success. Let's see if we can actually get out of this cave then we can get started on... Well, all of what comes next." He was grinning from ear to ear quite excited.
