RE: A Northern Adventure? Hardly. - Harry Hardcastle - 08-24-2021

Harry blinked, but said nothing. There were lots of ways they could ruin this man. Joesph. Even his name was common and distasteful.

"Where should I start?" Harry asked.

Ugh. Did he have to explain everything to Harry? That was annoying. Especially because Robert wouldn't know where to start either.

"And you're going to be a lawyer... Begin with the register's office. And talk to people. Undercover of course. There's your chance to go slumming. I'll get the servants to give you something to wear."

Harry nodded vigorously. This is why he was the brains behind the operation.

"Does that mean I lodge with you then?" He asked.

"What? No you, can't," said Robert. "My family is grieving... or pretending to, or whatever they are doing. And my father probably shouldn't know you're here or he'll suspect we're up to something. Stay here at the Angel Inn. They have decent rooms and decent guests."

Harry nodded, finishing his beer. At once, his seldom used brain struck upon an idea and he rose, wirelessly taking his empty glass with him.

"I'll have another ale, sir." Harry asked, pushing the glass toward the man behind the bar. "I'm looking for a friend of mine, uh, a Joseph Blacke, does he drink in here?"

Robert quirked an eyebrow and watched with interest. He hadn't expected that. He doubted Blacke drank at the Angel Inn, more likely in one of the dirty dens with cheap ale and piss all over the floor, but then it was close to the station.

"Joseph Blacke? Sorry. Don't know anyone by that name who drinks 'ere. If he does stop in fer a pint, can I have a name?"

"That's alright. I'll try somewhere else." Harry grasped his refilled, foamy, glass and trudged back to join his friend.

"He doesn't drink here." Harry explained with a sullen expression.

Robert shrugged. "It was worth a try. Good work," he encouraged. "Try the filthier pubs in the coming days. That dog couldn't afford to drink here."

Harry scowled at his friend and took a deep draft of beer in consolation.

"It's for a good cause," Robert consoled his friend. "Could be your sister and your inheritance next, if we don't make an example out of this guy."
