RE: Gratitude - Ruth Blacke - 08-12-2021

She adjusted Jacob so he was settled in his sling and then grabbed for the food in question. "Thank ye," she said and was off to the library where she soon set the tray down. "Did you find your pocket watch, sir?" Or was he looking for something else.

"My pocket watch?" Edward says blinking at her return, he was currently flipping through a book and the question left him puzzled for a moment and then he says. "Oh, yes, it was in the interior pocket of my vest instead of the exterior one."

"Well then, it's good ye found it, aye?" She asked and then set the food down on the table. Jacob was busy looking at Edward in infantile fascination as Ruth set things up for them to eat. "Why don't ye come sit down and eat and tell me more about the lessons ye have given me so far?"

"Hrmm?" Edward articulated as he looked her way and processed what she was doing. "Ah, of course, I'll join you." The man settled down at the table she'd now set as he eyes the meal trying to remember if he'd eaten or not. When his stomach growled at him he realized he had an answer. "What lesson did you need clarification on?"

"The Dewey Decimal System... I just want to know more history about it." She sat with him. Her eyes watched the man from beneath lowered lashes, hoping he took the bait and would explain while they ate.

Dependent upon the exact details of her desire end goal then she would find herself quite successful. As Edward was only too happy to jump in and explain the details of its invention. "Well you see Melvil Dewey was working at Amherst College and found the organizational system wanting. So he started work in eighteen seventy three on a new system for organization though he didn't publish it until eighteen seventy six...." Edward began as he completely and utterly forgot about the food on his plate.

"Fascinatin," she said and then gestured toward the food, "It's delicious, ye should try a bite." She smiled, reminding him to eat gently.

"Hrmm oh? Yes of course." Edward's attention returned to the meal as he pecked at it lightly but she would have to do keep reminding him to do so. He seemed more interested in explaining the lengthy history of the Dewey Decimal system, and other organization systems, to her than in eating.

RE: Gratitude - Ruth Blacke - 08-27-2021

She had already taken that into consideration. And while he explained what the system was all about... again... she would answer his questions with, key words like "Fascinatin'" and other descriptors, before she would say, "Ye should try another bite." At least until most of his dinner was gone.

Ruth would find that getting Edward to eat took nearly as much as getting her young child to eat. The constant reminders that he should do so the only thing that ensured that most of the food on his plate was finally consumed. He was clearly more interested in his lesson than caring for himself.
