She nodded at all of this new information and said, "Aye, mum." When it came to the ride, she merely repeated her affirmation, "Aye, please. Though I will have ta figure out how ta juggle that and carry Jacob." She chuckled. "Me ma might take him for the night." She hated to leave the boy but she had to do something.

"Whatever works poppet whatever works." They track down Mister Lane handing over the letter of employment that would ensure the butler would get her paid on time. After that Ruth's measurements were taken and she was taken back to her house while Betsy and Eleanor turned over a room for her within the manor. Angus was also asked to track down a crib for the baby and he seemed certain he could get one by tomorrow at the latest.

After they got the employment letter into the right hands, and after she went home to get her belongings, scarce as they were. She ended up wrapping Jacob up so he was in front at her belly and chest. She couldn't bear the thought of leaving the babe for just one night yet. It wasn't lack of trust, but rather new mom feelings. Either way, she would make her way to her parents' and back in short order.

Once she is returned she is lead into the servant's quarters and her own private chamber. It wasn't much, a small room with a double-sized bed, a circular rug on the floor, a small vanity, a dresser and a wardrobe, and that was about it for the moment. Still, it was likely larger than the room she'd had at her parent's residence and it was hers alone, for all intents and purposes.

She was very grateful for the room, and was even more grateful for the roomy bed she would only have to share with Jacob for a night. She thanked them for this and soon set to work. First, she lay her son on the bed, then she unpacked her belongings.

The next day she would be introduced to her duties. Shown what would be expected of her around the manor. It was very much in line with many of the things she'd done the day she'd already worked. Mostly cleaning, laundry, upkeep and keeping the entire house spic and span. Considering the ongoing construction in some wings there was always something to do.

She proved again to be a hard worker and a fast learner, working with the baby on her back without flinching. Jacob proved to be a quiet little one who did not cry much except for when he needed changing or he was hungry, then she would go off to her room to tend to the boy. Other times, she left him in his cradle for a few hours at a time while she worked. But she would always get her job done.

Every now and then she would pass the library by out of curiosity.

The sight in the library was usually the same. Sure, he was sometimes in a different position but for the most part Edward was usually in there and he was usually working on something with the chalkboards. She was even sent into make sure he ate from time to time, which was always a process no matter how many times she did it. The man needed to be watched like a hawk, any lapse in concentration would lead to him abandoning whatever food he was brought.

There was one particular day, probably a few weeks into the job, that she sat with Edward and was watching him like a hawk. There was a frown upon her face. She waited until he was finished before she moved to the nearest chalkboard. She pondered as she peered at the things written there. Of course, she had no clue what he had done with the chalkboards at all. She looked to him again and remembered how animated he had been when teaching Betsy and her about the Dewey Decimal System, she said, "One day, I would like ta learn more things like this." Ruth gestured toward the board and then glanced over to him. "Mayhap ye can tell me about this."

"Hrmm?" Edward says as he looks over at the chalkboard and he smiles brightly. "Oh! You want to learn about physics? I can certainly teach you about those. What is you experience with mathematics? That is the foundation of physics its all about using math to understand the natural forces of the world!"
