Returning a jacket [Streets, Yards, and Homes] - Tobias Appleton - 12-19-2020

It had only been when Tobias had gotten home that he had realized he had taken Anthony's jacket. Alice had asked questions. It had been uncomfortable. Everything had felt uncomfortable. And he had been tempted to burn the jacket. The last thing he needed was a reminder of his awkward slip up - or almost slip up, or whatever.

But he felt guilty. That poor guy was clearly very poor and it was still cold. He had done enough wrong. And so he was back in Whitby the next day. There was still a mark around his eye, but the worst pain was over. He was walking around, looking for this poor man, whose name he had inconveniently forgotten. He was terrified of running into one of the Wards, and having to explain why he was back and walking around with an extra, rather worn, jacket over his arm. He had always been a poor liar.

Anthony really needed some fresh air. Everything kind of fucking sucked, and he was hoping taking a little walk would make him feel a bit better. His head hurt, he was tired, and a bit cold. Thank God that the jacket he'd lost yesterday wasn't his only one, or he'd have probably already frozen to death right now.

After a bit, he stopped near some alley for a quick smoke break. Because clearly just one terrible, life-destroying habit wasn't enough. He leaned against the wall and smoked.

Tobias looked into alleys as he passed them, though he did not dare to go roaming through the network of alleys and yards off the main streets, even in daylight. The memory of the attack was still uncomfortably vivid in his mind.

He spotted Anthony and walked over quickly. He slowed down at the last few paces however, for the awkwardness dawned on him. He cleared his throat.

Anthony was merely enjoying his cigarette when he was rudely interrupted. He was so out of it that the awkwardly close sound of someone clearing their throat was enough for him to flinch and drop the cigarette. He had a quick enough reaction time regarding that, and he put it out quickly with his foot. His reaction time regarding the very fellow approaching him was much slower, though, and he stared for a few seconds before realizing who it was. What? "...Hi?"

Tobias flinched when the man dropped his cigarette. He hadn't meant to startle the man and screw up further. "Hello..." he greeted back stupidly. "I... errr...." He held out the jacket. "Accidentally packed your jacket yesterday..."

Anthony was a bit sad now, but he let it go. He raised his eyebrows as Tobias spoke and held out the jacket for him. He took it, and upon looking at it for a bit, he came to the conclusion that, yep, this was his. That was a mystery solved, then. "Oh. Well. Don't worry about it. Thank you." Yet another display of his wondrous social skills.

"You're welcome... Sorry for the trouble." Yeah, and for his own trouble. "Erm... well. See you." Preferably not, because that would be awkward. He turned and walked away.

"Right. Thanks." Anthony nodded, awkwardly clutching his jacket. He was still a bit mad about the cigarette, and his headache was giving him an urge to be a bitch. "You owe me a cigarette, though," he called out after him.

Tobias turned around. Damn that guy. But he had always been easy to guilt-trip. He walked back over. "I don't carry any cigarettes'."

"Well, that's an awful shame," Anthony said. His confidence was a bit better, now that he was being kind of a little bitch. "you still owe me one though."
