Elijah chuckled weakly. "Its fine. It'll give you something to do next time. Let's stop, you can get paid and I'll get us some dinner. How does that sound?"

Elijah shook his head and smiled. "I think you worked harder than I today. You take it easy while I cook." He handed over her pay which was plenty for a day's work. "I wish I could pay you more but I gave you extra since I knew you'd be doing a lot today. Every other day should be relatively easy."

"Oh yes. He gets cross whenever I spend money he thinks I shouldn't. But I can't think of a better use. I know you'll spend it wisely, Anne, and you earned it fully."
He started to cook a stew that wouldn't take long. "Hope you'll be alright with my cooking. I'm not the best but I manage."

Anne would take it straight to her father, but she smiled. "Thank you. I am sure it will be just fine." After all, she could survive Rose's cooking. Usually father told Alice to cook, even when Rose was home and offered. "Are you sure you don't need help?"

Elijah chuckled. "Its ok. I promise. Relax, i just realized I don't think you've ever tasted food I cooked. you had every right to be worried." He focused on cooking with a cheerful smile.
