RE: A New Chapter - Ellie Russell - 03-26-2022

Thankfully Christine hadn't probed too much further into the roots of Ellie's reluctance to read. It was not dislike or distrust of books, but simple lack of real ability to do read.

"I Love to go to the pavilion, Miss an' listen to a band, or the dance hall for a cheap dance."

RE: A New Chapter - Christine Pennyfeather - 03-26-2022

Christine nodded and smiled. "That sounds lovely, I've never heard a lot of music or learned to dance. " Perhaps that was part of the reason she didn't go out a lot.

Ellie was shocked. "Really, Miss? I thought all proper ladies learned music an dancing to go with their sewing and manners."

Christine rose a brow and looked devilish. "What makes you think I'm a proper lady? I have money, and I was given an education. That is all that makes me like them. My father did not have time for things that weren't important and music and dancing were leisure activities. Any time I experienced them was only in passing when I was out of the house which I promise wasn't as much as I'd have liked." And yet, even know it was the comfort in a quiet controlled environment that kept her inside still.

"I'll just 'ave to educate ye one day, Miss." Ellie said. She could take Christine to the Cragg for when they had a fish supper and fiddlin' on the steps on a house, down to the pavilion for a brass band, or for a cheap dance.

Christine smiled softly and nodded patting her on the head. "I would like that. Perhaps I can teach you something. What would you like to know? Science? French? Maybe a little archeology? Lost cities are quite exciting." She said with a small smile.

"French? Lost cities? Miss, I'd settle for learnin' English letters just fine." If she improved her reading, then all of those things could be easier, her life could better. She could even help out in the shop in the event that Christine were busy to do so.

Christine looked at her and smiled. "Of course, we all must start somewhere. I am happy to each you about it. I've already offered to teach a nice young french man some reading and english."

"Some young french man, Miss?" Ellie asked

Christine nodded. "A lost child in town, I think. He can't speak the local tongue so I offered to help. His reading also could use a little help so I wanted to assist. I like helping those that catch my interest."
