Elijah was gone, feeling hot in the face in humiliation. He didn't know why he made such a fool of himself. Clearly he couldn't go back to confession, but he would keep his promise and return to Church the next Sunday, head down and be quick to leave. He would be happier to have the priest forget him and forget about him in return.
The only remaining proof he'd ever been there would be the small note tucked in with a little money on the collection plate thanking him for being a truly compassionate person and he hoped he stayed for a long time to help others.
