Bram nodded slowly. When the doctor reached out to ruffle his hair, Bram pulled his head away. The doctor pulled back awkwardly and got up.
"Any time you need help, drop by..." he said. He looked at the constable uncomfortably.

Elijah put an arm around Bram to help him feel safer and nodded to the doctor. "Thank you for seeing us and thank you for this. It's very kind of you." He shook the doctor's hand and then led the boy out. "So, do you feel better?"

"Yeah..." The boy said reluctantly. "Can I help you be a constable again?"

Elijah nodded then smiled. "Well I suppose, but you have to take it seriously."

"I can do that," Bram said. "Are we going to arrest someone?"

Elijah looked surprised. "I have no plans to arrest anyone right now. Why do you think that?"

"Because that's what constables do, right?" The boy said, a little disappointed.

Elijah knelt down closer to his level. "We try to make the place peaceful and safe for others. When people don't allow that, we arrest them if we can. I have to obey the law. I see people I want to arrest sometimes, but I can't. It isn't an easy job."

The boy thought for a moment. "Then can we go looking for people who break the law?"

Elijah shrugged. "We can look for people who are in need of our help or are doing wrong."
