There was a long silence between them. Ben sank into his own thought as he smoked. It was a pity Elijah felt the way he did about marriage. He would have been perfect. Too perfect for his Alice in this state, surely, but he would have been kind enough to handle that. Ben hoped the others would be able to find someone for his daughter. And then it was time to look out for the other girls.
