Colin is of slender build and doesn't carry much in the way of bulk. He came from a working family so food wasn't always plentiful but there was enough to survive.
He has tried to join the navy like his brothers but a childhood illness caused him breathing problems which meant he could not pass a medical. Due to shortness of breath he wasn't the sports type which left him with a smaller frame than he would like |

Colin grew up in a majorly male household just outside of the village. His family were highly involved in the cottage industry with his father owning a small holding and his mother spinning the wool for the textile Mills up north.
Colin was born the youngest of three brothers. The family grew in only 4 years to 5 in the household, this meant while food was available it wasn't always in large quantities and Colin would forage in the local areas for additional food for the family.
Colin was hit hard with the influenza outbreak leaving him with pnuemonia which sometimes flares up in damp conditions if he isn't careful.
He didn't have much interest in school and would spend most days working on the land with his father during the seasons to save on labour costs. He managed to pass his writing and reading at school but not much more
He spent a couple of years working on the land of his father's smallholding and when was old enough applied for the Royal Navy like both his brothers had done a couple of years before.
His application was rejected on medical grounds due to the problems with his lungs and this would knock back his confidence. It wasn't long found another way to work for the government when he applied to join the Royal Mail as a postman.
He started working for the Royal Mail at 18 and is now heading into his 13th year with the company. |
