Sam grew up on the streets of whitby to a father who was a signaller for the local railway and his mother was a cook to one of the wealthier families in the area. He is the eldest of three children consisting of a younger sister and brother.
Sam did average at school and was able to leave at the age of 14. From a young age he would be kicking a ball around the parks and streets of Whitby and was on the school football team before leaving to follow his passion and play for whitby under 16s and under 21s as he grew. He would captain both teams at one point.
By the time he reached adulthood he would be playing in the first division for Whitby FC and on his 24th birthday he was asked to play for England |
