Kimeya has a strong face that does not need to be shaved often, if at all. He keeps his hair long and in braids when he is out. When Kimeya is not working, he wears the most colorful clothes he can get his hands on, some of it appearing to be handmade or altered to suit his tastes. He is short but well built. |

It is a popular debate within the Rickett family whether or not great grandmother Gualala went willingly to France to marry great grandfather Orville. To some, the choice is obvious; to others, they call it true love.
Kimeya knows better, because he was raised better, because he was raised by great grandmother Gualala’s only child. Of course she hadn’t wanted to leave. Of course she missed her home. Of course she hated France. But her husband was quick to silence her and speak over her, and their daughter Elaine too. It was like that until the day they died.
Elaine refused to raise her children the same way she was. She made sure they knew where they came from and why, instilled a strong sense of pride for their heritage in them from the moment they were born.
Kimeya grew into his pride well. He was always a quiet but confident boy, and soon became a quiet and confident man. He is well educated, and avoids trouble when he can, but isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty when he can’t.
The man his mother married was not as well off as she was, but he was kind, and sympathetic to her story. What Elaine had with him was as close to love as she was ever going to get, she thought, so they were married and together had Kimeya and Tabahtea.
Both children, alongside studying hard in school, helped their father on his fishing boat. After his father’s passing, Kimeya kept at it to support his remaining family, but also out of a genuine love for the work.
More time passed, and the remaining Rickett family all grew bored in their small town in France, and they all decided to up and move to Whitby. After all, what could be better than moving to another small town by the sea, where fishing work was ample?
It is there in Whitby that Kimeya now resides in a small apartment on his own, close by to his sister and mother. Others who know Kimeya do not have much to say about him, as there is not much they know. Most assume he is unfriendly and cold, when really Kimeya would simply prefer to keep to himself. More than once, he has surprised people by speaking, as they expect him to be mute, or at least not to have such a strong French accent. |
