Growing up in an affluent family in London, Emilios learned about his heritage. His grandfather Xenon was born a slave and so valued by his master that he was educated and took care of all of his financial investments. When he was freed, he decided to keep his Greek name and chose a Greek last name as well. He gave his children Greek names and his only son did the same when he had kids.
Xenon worked at odd jobs until he had enough to invest. Making smart decisions, that small amount of money grew until he and his family were able to live in luxury. In the spirit of their Greek names, he hired a tutor to teach his children the language. His grandchildren learned Greek as well.
Emilios’ father continued his legacy. His best investment was the property he bought in South Africa shortly after diamonds and gold were discovered, greatly increasing his fortune. They owned several estates in England and one in Greece. The family often spent their summers in a palatial mansion overlooking the sea that was close to the town of Whitby.
Emilios received a fine education and went to the most prestigious college in England to study law. He opened his own firm that focused on representing poor people of all races. He didn’t need the money and sometimes worked for free if his clients could not afford to pay him.
When he was twenty-two, Emilios married the love of his life. They had two children and five happy years together before she became ill and passed away. As everything in London reminded him of her, he decided to move to Whitby for awhile. One of his siblings joined him.
