Physical Description: |
Standing a bit taller than most, she makes sure to not wear higher shoes or her hair up and she certainly doesn’t over accessorize. Even as wealthy as she and her husband are, Aurore isn’t one to branch outside of her comfort zone when it comes to clothing. She will keep with the trend but order her dresses in paler blues or softer colors. However, don’t be fooled by her duller wardrobe, as there isn’t a thread out of place, and she makes sure to always be polished and put together.
Despite living in a seaside village she rarely spends too much time outside and certainly never exposes her skin. Even in the warmer months of the summer her sleeves are down to cover scars and gloves adorn her hands to hide the way once broken bones make her knuckles swell sometimes.
Aurore doesn’t laugh easy but is polite and will offer a small smile in place of her resting face. The collars of her dresses are always a bit higher and she makes sure to hide away her blush and certainly only her husband has seen her ankles. However, as the years pass and friendships grow with those in the town there is rumor now of laugh lines around her eyes.
Nothing a bit of powder can’t fix though. |
History: |
**CW: Domestic Abuse**
An Admirals daughter, Aurore grew up under the shadow of both tall sails and the true terror that was Charles Louis Napoléon Bonaparte (Napoléon III), the last Emperor of France. With her mother’s death at an early age, she was forced to travel with her father and moved from port to port with ease. By the time she was ten years old, Napoléon III was dethroned and France entered the Third Republic. This afforded her father a chance to help usher in a new era of naval warfare and the outfitting of steam engines with iron.
By the time she was sixteen the French Navy was occupied with the Franco-Prussian War and Aurore found a way to use this to her advantage. With her father distracted and so many opportunities to earn her own living, her career as an arms dealer began. She used her status and education to funnel money back into a cause that was growing on her heart, but when her father was killed during the war Aurore found herself without the freedom that having a high ranked official could afford an unwed young woman.
It was then she met a privateer by the name McKenna and though she did her best to avoid all emotions towards him she found herself in love. After a bit of a whirlwind romance, Aurore discovered she was pregnant, but chose to disguise it from the Irishman and instead turn to the order she worked with for aid. Their solution to marry a man nearly three times her age with the agreement that she would be able to continue her work as long as he could raise the boy as his own. Little did she know then what a nightmare that would be.
Jocelyn Vallier was a horrid man who had three wives before her who all failed to produce a child. The blame on them, he had them killed and after those first three years of Lucien’s life, Aurore failed to get pregnant a second time. His violent temper held her hostage and with it came the fear of both her life and that of her child. She enlisted the aid of one of her guards to buy herself some time, and became pregnant with her second born. However, Jocelyn was furious the child wasn’t a boy and set out to separate mother from child and take his heir back to Germany. She was to remain in Prague with her daughter in exchange for her life.
Staged to look like an accident, Aurore set fire to the castle turned estate they shared in the ports of Bohemia and fled to Venice where she was able to regain her stance and secure an income through the swearing of her loyalty once more to an order older than the Murano kilns. Through a series of events, Jocelyn’s death made way to the Venetian shores, and Aurore was finally free. Able to finally confess to Fintan all that happened upon their return to one another, they wed not long after and started their lives together in one port town to the other.
Together they began their own little fleet of contract work and the shipping company flourished, but after the birth of their twins the physician spoke a dire warning that due to the scaring of previous trauma and the overall dangers of pregnancy that it would be best they settle down for a while. Aurore could think of no better place than the gentle seaside town of Whitby.
