Alpha was born to a poor woman (Marie-Claude) who worked in a brothel in France, and was named as such because her mother believed giving her daughter a powerful name would increase her chances of success in the world. Unfortunately for both Alpha and Marie-Claude, their lives would only spiral downhill after the birth of Alpha’s brother eleven years later. Marie-Claude had complications in her childbirth and passed away, but her son Raoul survived. Unwilling to continue living in the brothel her mother had served in, Alpha struggled to make wages in a factory and raise Raoul, but it was never enough and her brother died at age three when pneumonia swept their overcrowded apartment complex. Alpha, then fourteen, saw two options before her: join a brothel or run away. It was hardly a choice, and so she gathered what little she owned and travelled the country aimlessly until she crossed the border into England and ‘blew with the wind’ until she ended up in Whitby with not a penny or a possession to her name. Falling into a life of thievery to avoid ending up in a brothel like her mother had, Alpha has lived on the streets ever since, desperate for a way out of this way of life but seeing no ways to do so. |
