"Well, I'm not," Ben said. "And Hannah's not, and Tom and Simon are not. And your grandparents are not."

Elijah nodded and smiled. "Cause you are all nice and good people.. You're all family to me."

Ben put his hand on the boy's head and ruffled his hair. "Because you're a good lad. I'm sure you'll meet many people who appreciate you for who you are and don't mind your scars."

Elijah smiled huge and giggled squirming. "Thanks."

Ben smiled. "Well. Here we are. You tell yer grandmother that Hannah will call tomorrow, alright?"

Elijah smiled up at him and nodded. "Yes sir!"

"Good." Ben once more put his hand on the boy's head and gave him a gentle push with it. "Off with you."

Elijah giggled and nodded as he walked into his house and waved him back.
