RE: Killing time. I'm busy. - Tobias Appleton - 02-13-2021

He waited. Still no sign of Alice. He put his head back against the wooden wallboard and sighed. She was doing this on purpose, he was sure.

Anthony crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat, getting more impatient by the minute. He suddenly became very aware of his fidgeting and stopped to a halt. And so he instead started tapping his fingers against his elbow.

Tobias turned to Anthony when he heard him tapping. This man looked stressed. "You alright?" he asked, having an instant déjà vu.

Anthony ceased his tapping as soon as he heard that. He looked at Tobias for a moment, and then back away. "What? Yeah, of course," he nodded.

"Ok... good..." he said. Suddenly he rose. He would check on Alice. For all he knew she had fainted or something. But just then, his young wife came walking back towards them. "Finally. What took you so long?" Tobias scolded.

If looks could kill, Alice was certainly murdering her husband right now. "Are you asking me all the fine details of my use of a lavatory?" she said in a sweet voice that wasn't sweet. She turned to Anthony. "It's been a delight."

Anthony nodded and started fidgeting again, though more subtly than before, though he stopped once the girl returned. That was a good thing. It meant they would leave, which in turn meant that he could leave as well. A very good thing. He pointedly ignored their bickering, only acknowledging them when the girl addressed him. "Yes, it has," he said, nodding in acknowledgement, and started to put his gloves back on.

Tobias clenched his teeth together. She was going to drive him into an early grave. He put on his coat with rough movements. "Put on your coat. We're going," he said.

Alice did put on her coat, but very slowly, tying every button with care. "Like a breath of fresh air," she told Anthony.

Anthony couldn't help but roll his eyes a bit at this change in Tobias' behaviour. He stayed quiet, put on his gloves, and nodded at Alice once more. "Well, that's awful nice," he shrugged, completely unsure of what he should say.

Tobias walked over to the counter and paid, while Alice put on her gloves slowly. He returned. "Are you coming?" She did not respond and looked at her gloves. Tobias took a deep breath, turned to Anthony with a "see you," and marched out of the inn. Alice looked at Anthony. "Me father was very wrong. You're the most decent of all of 'em," she said, and with that she followed her husband out.

Anthony nodded at Tobias in acknowledgement, and felt an amazing sort of relief as soon as he left. He adjusted his neckerchief, and glanced towards Alice as she spoke to him. "Ah, well, thank you kindly," he nodded, and looked away. It was certainly unexpected, and Anthony didn't know how to respond. Thankfully, he didn't have to worry about it too much as the girl left as well. He buried his face in his hands, and sighed.
